Asylum seeker jailed for at least 29 years for murdering Walsall hotel worker

A Sudanese asylum seeker, Deng Chol Majek, has been sentenced to a minimum of 29 years in prison for the brutal murder of Rhiannon Whyte, a hotel worker in Walsall, UK. Majek, who had entered the UK illegally by small boat, stabbed Whyte 23 times at a railway station. The attack, which occurred in October 2024, resulted in Whyte’s death three days later. The court heard that Majek had been living at the hotel where Whyte worked and had been reported for staring at female staff members. The motive for the attack remains unclear, and Majek has denied any involvement in the murder.
